El Zumbadorcito o Zumbaflor o Zumbador verbena (Mellisuga minima) fué registrado por Linnaeus en 1758. Su distribución comprende, Islas Caimán, Jamaica, Haití, República Dominicana y una pequeña región del oeste de Puerto Rico. Su hábitat natural son los bosques húmedos subtropicales o tropicales de tierras bajas y antiguos bosques muy degradados. De pico a cola mide alrededor de 7 cm.

The Vervain hummingbird (Mellisuga minima) was registered by Linnaeus in 1758. Its distribution includes, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic and a small region of western Puerto Rico. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and heavily degraded former forest. From peak to tail it measures arround 2.76 in.

La especie de colibrí más pequeña es el "Colibri Cubano" también llamado Zunzuncito, Elfo de las abejas, Guaní o Zumbador abeja (Mellisuga helenae ó Calypte helena) fué registrado por Lembeye en 1850 y es endémico de ésta isla. Ésta ave del pico a la cola mide apenas unos 5.5 cm. Por lo cual se convierte en la especie más pequeña del mundo.

From peak to tail it measures only 2.16 inches. Therefore becomes the smallest species of the world.
