Chlorostilbon canivetii

La Esmeralda de cola furcada o Esmeralda de Canivet (Chlorostilbon canivetii) fué registrado por Lesson en 1832. Su distribución comprende desde el sur de Tamaulipas, pasando por el centro y sureste de México, Guatemala, Belice, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua y el noroeste de Costa Rica. Su hábitat natural son los bosques tropicales o subtropicales secos, bosques de tierras bajas húmedas tropicales y subtropicales y antiguos bosques muy degradados. De pico a cola mide entre 8 y 9 centímetros.

Esta ave es considerada por algunos ornitólogos, como una subespecie de la especie "Chlorostilbon canivetii" pero no existe un consenso general para ello. Su distribución comprende el centro y sureste de México, Guatemala, Belice, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua y el noroeste de Costa Rica. Su hábitat natural son los bosques tropicales o subtropicales secos, bosques de tierras bajas húmedas tropicales y subtropicales y antiguos bosques muy degradados. La Esmeralda Puertorriqueña o Zumbadorcito (Chlorostilbon maugaeus) fué registrado por Audebert y Vieillot en 1801. Es un colibrí endémico el cual sólo se encuentra en el archipiélago de Puerto Rico. Su hábitat natural son los bosques tropicales y subtropicales, manglares y jardines que se encuentran al rededor de toda la Isla. Esta especie formaba parte de una súperespecie junto con el "Chlorostilbon ricordii" y el "Chlorostilbon swainsonii" los cuales formaban el género "Riccordia". Una característica importante de esta especie es que presenta un dismorfismo sexual en cuanto a su coloración.. De pico a cola mide ente 9 y 11 cm.

The Puerto Rican emerald (Chlorostilbon maugaeus) was registered by Audebert & Vieillot in 1801. Its an endemic hummingbird found only in the archipelago of Puerto Rico. Their natural habitat are the tropical and subtropical forests, the mangroves and gardens around the whole island. It was a part of a superspecies with the "Chlorostilbon ricordii" and the "Chlorostilbon swainsonii", and these three formerly separated in genus "Riccordia". An important feature of this species is that this species presents a sexual dimorphism in their coloration.. From peak to tail it measures between 3.54 to 4.33 in.

La Esmeralda de la Española o Esmeralda Dominicana o Zumbador esmeralda (Chlorostilbon swainsonii) fué registrado por Lesson en 1829 y es endémico de la isla La Española. Su distribución comprende obviamente República Dominicana y Haití. Su hábitat natural son los bosques húmedos subtropicales o tropicales de tierras bajas, bosques húmedos de montaña tropicales o subtropicales y antiguos bosques muy degradados. Esta especie formaba parte de una súperespecie junto con el "Chlorostilbon ricordii" y el "Chlorostilbon maugaeus" los cuales formaban el género "Riccordia". De pico a cola mide 13 cm.

The Hispaniolan Emerald (Chlorostilbon swainsonii) was registered by Lesson in 1829 and is endemic of the Hipaniola island. Its distribution includes obviously Dominican Republic and Haiti. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical moist montanes forest, and heavily degraded former forest. Su distribución comprende el norte de Perú, este de Ecuador, noreste de Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad y Tobago, Guyana, Surinam, Guayana Francesa y Brasil a lo largo de la cueca principal del Rio Amazonas, al igual que a lo largo de la región costera del Oceano Atlántico que va desde el Departamento de Amapa hasta Rio de Janeiro. De pico a cola mide 9 cm.

Su distribución comprende Cuba, Islas Turcas y Caicos, Bahamas e islas menores de las Antillas como Aruba y Antillas Holandesas (Curazao y Bonaire). Por esta razón, puede ser encontrado en un amplio rango de hábitats semi abiertos y áreas donde predominan los matorrales y arbustos. Esta especie formaba parte de una súperespecie junto con el "Chlorostilbon maugaeus" y el "Chlorostilbon swainsonii" los cuales formaban el género "Riccordia". De pico a cola mide 12 centímetros.

Its distribution includes Cuba, Turks and Caicos Islands, Bahamas and minor islands of the Antilles like Aruba and Netherlands Antilles (Curaçao and Bonaire). For this reason, it can be found in a wide range of semi-open habitats and in areas dominated by shrubs and bushes. It was a part of a superspecies with the "Chlorostilbon ricordii" and the "Chlorostilbon maugaeus", and these three formerly separated in genus "Riccordia". From peak to tail it measures 4.72 inches.
