El Colibrí pico de espada (Ensifera ensifera) fué registrado por Boissonneau en 1839 y se distingue de los demás colibríes por poseer un pico cuya longitud es superior al resto de su cuerpo, el cual mide entre 9 y 10 cm. Esta ave puede ser encontrada en Sudamérica específicamente en Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia y Perú. De pico a cola, ésta ave mide aproximadamente 16.5 cm.The Sword-billed hummingbird (Ensifera ensifera) was registered by Boissonneau in 1839 and it is distinguished from others hummingbirds because it have a peak whose length is bigger than the rest of its body, which measures between 3.54 to 3.95 inches. This bird can be found in South America, specifically in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru. From peak to tail it measures about 6.5 inches.
