Su hábitat natural comprende desde tierras áridas que van desde el nivel del mar hacia las montañas, hasta bosques húmedos. Por esta amplia adaptabilidad, puede ser encontrada desde los Estados de Arizona, Nuevo México, California, Texas y Louisiana en los E.U.A., pasando por los Estados de Sonora, Chihuahua, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas hacia el sur hasta Veracruz y Oaxaca en México. From peak to tail it measures 3.94 in.
