La Esmeralda de cola furcada o Esmeralda de Canivet (Chlorostilbon canivetii) fué registrado por Lesson en 1832. Su distribución comprende desde el sur de Tamaulipas, pasando por el centro y sureste de México, Guatemala, Belice, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua y el noroeste de Costa Rica. Su hábitat natural son los bosques tropicales o subtropicales secos, bosques de tierras bajas húmedas tropicales y subtropicales y antiguos bosques muy degradados. De pico a cola mide entre 8 y 9 centímetros.

Its natural habitats are tropical or subtropical dry forests, tropical or subtropical moist lowland forests, and heavily degraded former forest. From peak to tail it measures between 3.15 to 3.54 inches.
