El Colibrí verde mayor o Colibrí grande verde o Colibrí orejivioleta de vientre azúl en portugués conocido como Beija flor violeta (Colibrí coruscans) fué registrado por Gould en 1846. Su distribución comprende las regiones andinas desde Venezuela y Colombia hasta el norte de Chile y Argentina, sin embargo, también existen registros que demustran que vive también en Guyana y el norte de Brasil. Su hábitat natural son las selvas lluviosas, selvas nubosas y vegetación secundaria aunque también puede puede ser visto fácilmente en zonas urbanas en varios jardines y terrasas. De pico a cola mide 14 cm.The Sparkling violet-ear or Gould's violet-ear or Beija flor violeta as is know in portuguese (Colibrí coruscans) was registered by Gould in 1846. Its distribution includes the Andean regions from Venezuela and Colombia to northern Argentina and Chile, however there are records that proves that also lives in Guyana and Northern Brazil. Its natural habitat are the rain forests, cloud forests and secondary vegetation but it can also easily seen in urban areas in several gardens and terraces. From peak to tail it measures 5.51 in.
