El Tucusito rubí o Colibrí rubí-topacio (Chrysolampis mosquitus) fué registrado por Linnaeus en 1758 y es la única especie del género Chrysolampis. Se trata de un migrante estacional, cuyos movimientos no son bien entendidos aún, sin embargo, se sabe que su hábitat natural son las selvas de galería, manglares, vegetación decidua, vegetación secundaria, en campo abierto, jardines y áreas de cultivos. Su distribución comprende Panamá, Colombia, Bolivia, Brasil, Guayana Francesa, Surinam, Guyana, Venezuela, Aruba, Antillas Holandesas (Curazao y Bonaire), Trinidad y Tobago, Granada, San Vicente y las Granadinas, Barbados, Santa Lucia, Martinica, Dominica, Guadalupe, Montserrat, Antigua y Barbuda.
