
The Violet-headed hummingbird or Violet crowned hummingbird or Beija flor de cabeça roxa as it is called in Portuguese (Klais guimeti) was registered by Bourcier in 1843 and it is the only member of the Klais genus. Its distribution includes, Its distribution includes southeastern Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, western and central Bolivia and a very small region of the Department of Amazonas in Brazil very close to the City of Cruzeiro do Sul. Their natural habitat are the subtropical or tropical lowland rainforests, subtropical or tropical moist mountains and heavily degraded former forest. From peak to tail it measures 3.35 in.
