Su distribución comprende el sureste de Honduras, Nicaragua, Panamá, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Perú, el oeste y centro de Bolivia y una región muy pequeña del Departamento del Amazonas en Brasil muy próxima a la Ciudad de Cruzeiro do Sul. Su hábitat natural son los bosques húmedos de tierras bajas subtropicales o tropicales, montañas húmedas subtropicales o tropicales y antiguos bosques muy degradados.
