El Picaflor rubí o Picaflor chico (Sephanoides sephaniodes) fué registrado por Lesson en 1827. Su distribución comprende Chile y Argentina desde el Valle del Huasco (región de Atacama) por el norte hasta Magallanes y Tierra de Fuego por el sur. Además también se puede encontrar en la Isla de Robinson Crusoe (Más a Tierra) del archipiélago Juán Fernández. Este colibrí es el que vive más al sur del Continente, por esta razón, en invierno migra hacia Atacama. De pico a cola mide 11 cm.
The Green-backed firecrown (Sephanoides sephaniodes) was registered by Lesson in 1827. Its distribution includes Chile and Argentina from the Huasco Valley (Atacama region) in the north to Magallanes and Tierra de Fuego in the South. It can also be found in Robinson Crusoe Island (Más a Tierra) at the Juan Fernandez archipelago. This hummingbird is the living more to the south of the Continent, for this reason in winter migrates to Atacama. From peak to tail it measures 4.33 in.
