
The Purple-backed thornbill, (Rampomicron microrhynchum) was registered by Boissonneau in 1839 and it is the hummingbird that has the smallest peak - just 0.19 inches-. This bird is native of South America and it can be found at Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru. In Spanish is known as "Tucusito Coludo chico" (Long-tail small hummingbird). From peak to tail it measures about 3.15 inches.
