El Ermitaño verde (Phaethornis guy) fué registrado por Lesson en 1833. Su distribución comprende en Centroamérica, Costa Rica y Panamá, y en Sudamérica Trinidad y Tobago, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador y Perú. Su hábitat natural son los bosques húmedos de tierras bajas subtropicales o tropicales, bosques lluviosos subtropicales o tropicales, bosques nubosos y vegetación secundaria. Además es común que frecuente los márgenes de la vegetación. De pico a cola mide entre 13.5 y 15 cm.
