
The Rufous-breasted hermit or Hairy hermit or Balança rabo de bico torto as its known in portuguese (Glaucis hirsutus) was registered by Gmelin in 1788. Their natural habitats are the low rainforests, secondary vegetation, shrubs and mangroves. Its distribution includes, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, French Guiana, Surinam, Guyana, Venezuela, Aruba, Netherland Antilles (Curaçao and Bonaire), Trinidad y Tobago, Grenada, St Vicent and the Grenedines, Barbados, St Lucia, Martinique, Dominica Guadeloupe, Montserrat, Antigua and Barbuda, St Kitts and Nevis, St. Eustatius, Saba and Anguilla. From peak to tail it measures between 4.33 to 5.12 in.
