El Picaflor pico de sable o Ermitaño pecho canela o Balança rabo de bico torto como es conocido en portugués (Glaucis hirsutus) fué registrado por Gmelin en 1788. Su hábitat natural son las selvas lluviosas bajas, vegetación secundaria, arbustos y manglares. Su distribución comprende Panamá, Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, Bolivia, Brasil, Guayana Francesa, Surinam, Guyana, Venezuela, Aruba, Antillas Holandesas (Curazao y Bonaire), Trinidad y Tobago, Granada, San Vicente y las Granadinas, Barbados, Santa Lucia, Martinica, Dominica, Guadalupe, Montserrat, Antigua y Barbuda, San Cristóbal y Nieves, San Eustaquio, Saba y Anguila. De pico a cola mide de 11 a 13 cm.

From peak to tail it measures between 4.33 to 5.12 in.
