El Colibrí cola pinta o Colibrí de Dupont (Tilmatura dupontii) fué registrado por Lesson en 1832. Se trata de la única especie integrante del género "Tilmatura" cuyo hábitat natural son los bosques abiertos y zonas con matorrales y arbustos. Su distribución comprende México desde Sinaloa hacia el sur, prácticamente bordeando la costa del pacífico hásta Oaxaca; una segunda concentración se ubica entre Veracruz y Puebla y una tercera población se situa a partir del norte de Chiapas en Mexico hacia el sur através de las tierras altas de Guatemala, Honduras, una pequeña franja de El Salvador hasta el norte de Nicaragua. De pico a cola mide de 9 a 10 cm.
The Sparkling-tailed hummingbird or Sparkling-tailed woodstar (Tilmatura dupontii) was registered by Lesson in 1832. This is the only species of the genus "Tilmatura" whose natural habitat are the open forest and areas with bushes and shrubs. Its distribution includes Mexico from Sinaloa to the south, almost the Pacific coast to Oaxaca, a second concentration is between Veracruz and Puebla and a third population is located from the North of Chiapas in Mexico to the south through highland of Guatemala, Honduras and small strip of El Salvador to Northern Nicaragua. From peak to tail it measures between 3.54 to 3.94 in.
