El Colobrí berilo o Amazilia berilia (Amazilia beryllina, algunas veces clasificado en el género "Saucerottia") se atribuye su registro por una parte a Lichtenstein y por otra parte a Wilhelm Deppe (ambos en 1830). Su distribución se extiende desde México hasta Honduras sin embargo, existen registros de algunos avistamientos al sur de los E.U.A. Su hábitat natural, son los bosques templados en un amplio rango de altitudes, pero gracias a su gran adaptabilidad, incluso puede ser visto en grandes concentraciones urbanas como la Ciudad de México. De pico a cola mide 9.5 cm. Its natural habitats are temperate forests in a wide range of altitudes, however, thanks to its great adaptability, even can it can be seen in large urban centers like Mexico City. From peak to tail it measures 3.74 in.
